Frequently Asked Questions
We use the metric system for our tea, which is because this is the system that the tea world uses, and the amounts that we purchase in and is generally easier to deal in. 50 grams = almost 2 ounces, 250 grams is a little over a half pound. One 8 ounce cup of tea usually requires about 2 grams of tea leaves. One teaspoon holds about 2 grams of tea. Our 50 gram bag will make about 20-25 cups of tea.
Our teas come from a variety of locations around the world. Most tea comes from Asia (China, India, Taiwan, Japan, Sri Lanka). We have forged trusted relationships with all of our tea brokers and tea producers that we work with and have been in cooperation with most of them for over 8 years.
Our teas will stay fresh in the bags we sell them in up to 3-4 months. If storing for longer periods, we suggest using a tea tin for storage for up to 10-12 months.
Among our tea selections, some teas are organic and some are not. Many small tea farms and collectives that we source from are simply too small to afford the organic certification or industrial pesticides for that matter. Our tea brokers and other international importers fully inspect all teas before they arrive at our shop. Organic teas are listed under the organic tab on our website.
Flavoring in our teas is in the form of an extract or essential oil that is applied to the tea leaves by our food certified tea suppliers. Our suppliers use flavorings that meet or exceed all EU and US directives and guidelines and employ extensive quality controls and are perfectly safe for consumption. Our suppliers have proven track records of quality and safety, some have been experts in the business for nearly 200 years!
While most orders will arrive in 2-4 days, we ask that you allow 7-10 days for delivery.
Our storefront is very small and we can only accommodate a few people at a time. We have a small tasting bar with space for 3-4 people and a window seating bar that can accommodate 4 people. All space is first come first served.
Definitely! We sell to-go cups of any of our teas, hot or iced; we also have a few signature drinks like sweetened matcha and chai lattes.
We are primarily a loose leaf tea shop with over 150 types of loose teas and herbs. However, we do sell a small variety of bagged tea at the shop, ask us what we have in stock currently.
We do not sell any brands of tea, we deal in loose leaf teas that we have procured from a variety of tea brokers around the world.
We do not serve food. Sometimes we have packaged foods available for purchase, but this tends to rotate in availability.
No we do not, but SJ’s International Market just down the street does!
No, we only sell tea and herbals. We find that if coffee is sold at the same location, it tends to overpower the delicate aroma of tea. When you visit our shop, we want it to smell like tea.
No, we do not offer an afternoon tea experience.
At our shop we recycle all of our cardboard, we do not use plastic shopping bags, we use corn-based materials for our straws and iced tea cups, we compost all of our spent tea and loose leaf tea bags.
Unfortunately we cannot offer exchanges or returns on tea since it is a food item. However, if you are unhappy with a tea, please reach out to us and we will do what we can to assist.
